The Turkmen Alabai Livestock Guardian Dogs
Turkmen Alabai Dogs are the oldest-known Livestock Guardian Dog Breed on Earth: Dating as far back as 7,000 BC
Traditionally, the Turkmen Alabai Dog is a large breed of ‘Livestock Guardian Dog’ (and guard dog) known for their size, strength, loyalty, and innate protective nature.
Turkmen Alabai Dogs are the only true “pure-bred” Livestock Guardian Dogs (all other breeds are man-made).
The Turkmen Alabai breed is considered a national treasure in Turkmenistan, where it has a dedicated holiday and even a prominent statue (the info-graphic here shows the actual statue in Ashgabat, the capital). It’s 6-meters tall, and covered in real gold!
